Smink's foundations are lightweight and breathable, yet provide excellent coverage. We use a high percentage of silk mica which not only provides a beautiful silky soft feel but which also gives a "soft focus" look by diffusing and reflecting light rays and thereby reducing the appearance of irregularities, texture and wrinkles.
Sensitive skin? Zinc oxide will give you excellent UV protection, and is also soothing and anti-inflammatory. There is absolutely nothing in our foundations that can irritate skin. On the contrary, these ingredients actually protect and benefit the skin! Smink makeup is a wonderful choice for people with rosacea or other skin problems.
Prone to breakouts? I (Anna) break out very easily, but not with this foundation. There are no ingredients that will clog pores, and it is completely oil free! The anti-inflammatory properties of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide actually help heal break-outs!
Application: Apply with a brush for a sheer application, or for more coverage you can use a sponge. A kabuki brush is also an excellent tool for a beautiful and flawless application. This foundation does not require as much effort to apply as most traditional mineral foundations. No buffing is required, and an array of different brushes, tools and finishing powders are not necessary. This is partially due to the fact that our foundations are free of bismuth oxychloride, which is the main ingredient in most "traditional" mineral foundations. Bismuth oxychloride gives foundations a nice ‘creamy’ feel (and it's cheap, which is a big plus for a many manufacturers), but it is also a known skin irritant that causes breakout or even rashes for a significant percentage of people. It is also very 'shiny', or reflective and usually requires a matting agent to counteract this effect. We decided that we did not want this ingredient in our foundations, and instead we use high quality, silky-feeling micas to provide the nice, smooth texture without causing irritation.
We recently had the opportunity to try our makeup brand on a group of super cute girls at a fashion show here in St. John's. The designer was the talented Sara Hodder of Sech Designs. We were more than pleased to see how wearable the foundation is on various skin types and colors. It blends so well with your skin, that it seems to ‘become’ your skin, giving you a soft, glowing and healthy complexion.
